Seneca, Mohawk, Cayuga, Oneida, Onondaga and the Tuscarora who joined later
What are the key points of the Haudenosaunee world view?
Decisions by consensus, sharing labour and the benefits of labour. Their duty to their family, clan, nation and the Iroquois Confederacy. Considering the future generations and equality.
What were the three sisters and how did they help each other grow?
Corn, beans and squash. The corn supported the climbing beams talks and the squash discouraged weed from growing near the corn
How did they divide resources?
The women handed them out to each family according to their resources. The first to receive resources were the children, after came the elders, then the women and finally the men. The resources belonged to everyone
What does matrilineal mean?
Ancestral descent through the mother.
What were the responsibilities of the Haudenosaunee women?
Taking care of the children and longhouse. Preparing food and hunting for small animals. Helping the children’s and making sure ceremonies were performed correctly
What was the Iroquois confederacy?
An alliance formed between six nations
How were consensus decisions made?
Everyone discussed an issue until they all agreed
