What was the disaster?
The conflagration.
What did the conflagration do?
Destroyed the huge part of the land.
Caused ice caps to melt -> massive flooding
When is the story set?
249PC (Post Conflagration)
The Mark can be seen as
A dystopian
A bad place where life is unfair and difficult, conditions are harsh.
Describe their food situation
People fight over food.
Food has to be manufactured in The Laboratory, because soil has been destroyed and no plants or crops can grow in the ground anymore.
Describe their society’s control
Society’s control is oppressive and unfair.
Election candidates only come from certain families.
Those in power control resources and distribute them unfairly.
Terror is used to enforce laws and maintain order.
Describe Slum City
Called a ghetto.
Neglected, poverty-stricken area where people are forced to live.
Divided into sections for different groups of people.
Describe Mangeria City
Wealthy area where the Mangerians live
Also divided into sections (example: pleasure clubs, beauty parlours)
