Describe Kitty/Katherine Seven
- Apparently shallow and selfish
- Kitty saved Ettie’s from being burned when they were children
- Ettie believes Kitty is helpless and vulnerable
- Later on the reader realises Kitty is involved in an attempt to remove the number’s from people’s spines.
- She turns out to be resourceful and intelligent

- Son of the Guardian of Justice and Peace
- Not like other Mangerians
- Trained to be a Locust but is compassionate
- Attracted to Ettie, remains loyal to her and Kitty
Describe Mistress and Master
- Two characters seen in conflict with each other.
- They both want to protect their own families’ power and traditional roles.
- Master publicly humiliates Mistress and sacrifices her interests for his own.
- When Master dies, Mistress is indifferent (has no sympathy/interest).
