9
Q

Structures of the spleen and their functions.

A
  1. White pulp (stains darker purple) - immune function; patrols the blood.
  2. Red pulp (stains lighter pink) - recycles red blood cells

Q

What are the 2 types of lymphocytes and what do they do?

A

16
Q

Why is the thymus gland unique?

A

It is unique as an immune organ because it has no lymphoid follicles and no direct immune fighting function.

17
Q

What does MALT stand for?

A

Mucosa associated lymphoid tissue.

18
Q

Where is MALT found?

A
  1. Tonsils (Palatine, lingual, pharyngeal, and tubal)
  2. Peyers Patches (located in ileum of the small intestine)
  3. Appendix (lymphoid tissue located at the top section of the large intestine; function is to destroy bacteria entering the large intestine)
