The Light Independent Reaction (The Calvin Cycle) Flashcards
1
Q
What is the calvin cycle?
A
uses the products of the light dependent reaction (ATP + NADPH) to convert CO2
into useful organic compounds e.g. lipids, amino acids, glucose
2
Q
What happens during the calvin cycle?
A
1) CO2 combined with RuBP catalysed by the enzyme RUBISCO to make
2 molecules of GP
2) both molecules of GP are reduced to form 2 x TP which uses 2xNADPH and 2XATP
3) most ATP is regenerated to form RuBP using energy from ATP
4) some of the ATP is converted into useful organic compounds e.g. lipids
