Where did the celts come from
They came from Central Europe
When did the celts begin to control Europe
Around 650BC
How do we know much about the celts
This is because they traded and sometimes fought with the Greeks and Romans. It is from scholars of these civilisations that we get much knowledge about Celtic life
What is ogham
Basic type of alphabet. They would cut notches into the edge of a standing stone
What clothes did the men’s wear
Bracaes and boots from soft leather. In summer they would wear short tunics but in winter they preffered woollen tunic with long sleeve or heavy woollen cloaks
What did the women’s wear
Long woollen dresses with belt or buckle. In cold weather they wore a shawl or heavy cloak and they wore leather boots or sandals
Did the celts care about their appearance
They did. They wore bright clothes and could be fined if the bellies stuck out when their belt was buckled
How did we know that the celts were skilled craftspeople
They made large pins or brooches from silver or gold, sometimes even patterns of flowers and spirals. They also knew how to make glass
