Epidermis:

  • Most superficial layer of the skin.
  • Stratum corneum (upper layer) & germinative layer (deeper).
  • Germinative layer bathed in fluid– provision of oxygen and nutrients.
  • No blood vessels or nerve endings in epidermis.
  • Keratinised stratified squamous epithelium – thin flat and non-nucleated.
