The Inner Solar system Flashcards
ground based telescope
a telescope that is placed on Earth’s surface
Space telescopes
a telescope that is located in outer space
Terrestrial Planet
A planet that has a hard, rocky surface.
Orbital radius
the average distance at which a planet revolves around the sun
planetary radius
the distance from the center of the planet’s core to the outer edge of its atmosphere
What are the Pros to the unaided eye
You can see many celestial bodies without the use of heavy equipment.
What are the pros to ground based telescopes?
They can see more than the unaided eye, they capture and concentrate light to make a clearer picture.
What are the Pros to Space based telescopes?
They can escape the light pollution of Earth and get a better close up picture of a planet.
What are the pros to Space craft?
With space craft people can actually be in the craft to talk and send reports about.
What are the THREE key characteristics to a terrestrial planet.
The are all made of Solid materials (Rock for the most part), they all have a Crust, Mantel, and Core, They all orbit the Sun.
What is the temperature range for Mercury?
590°
Why is Mercury’s atmosphere very thin?
Mercury has a very small mass so it means that it’s Gravity is very weak. Which means that it can’t hold on the it’s atmosphere well.
What is Mercury’s Orbital radius?
About .4 AU
About how many Earth days is one Mercury day?
Almost 59 Earth Days.
How many Earth days is in one Mercury year?
About 88 Earth Days.
