Lack of space in cities. Led to purpose built facilities
Large working class population- more spectators
Loss of traditional sports (mob football) were banned
Change in working conditions
Describe the Transport Revolution
Development of steam trains increased spectatorship and participation
Movement of teams is quicker
More access to different parts of country helping leagues form
Describe the improvement in communication
2nd half of Revolution, increase in education so people more literate
Newspapers more important as more literate people
Newspapers meant increased awareness of sport
Led to emergence of role models
