the incarnation Flashcards
what does the incarnation refer to?
God in human form (Jesus)
The Incarnation is made clear in scripture & continues today in the life of the Church.
why is the incarnation important?
- shows the love of God as he sent his only son to earth
- shows us what God is like as he reveals himself through Jesus
- means that we can achieve salvation - belief in Jesus can lead to eternal life
- helps us relate to Jesus as he endured suffering
examples that show us Jesus is the incarnation:
healing and forgiving the paralysed man - jewish people believed only God could forgive sins. he allowed his disciples to pick corn on the Sabbath - considered to be work - when they were hungry
the incarnation continues through history as humans share the life of Jesus through the sacraments and the Church.
Jesus’ nature
as said in the council of chalcedon
Jesus was fully human and fully divine
how do we know Jesus is fully human:
born of Mary
died on the cross
he got tired
cried at his friend’s death
how do we know Jesus is fully divine (God)
Mary was a virgin after having her son
miraculously healed people
at his baptism God came down and said ‘this is my son with whom I am pleased’
beliefs about the incarnation:

Jesus has always existed in his divine form
Only Jesus could save the world from sin
