First Paragraph: The Event

A

In 1961, the Bay of Pigs invasion occurred. This was when the USA had authorized a total of $12million to the CIA for them to train and launch 1.400 Cuban exiles into Cuba at the Bay of Pigs, so that they could overthrow the Socialist government led by Castro. However, the hardly trained exiles were easily outpowered by the army of 20,000 Cubans waiting for them at the Bay of Pigs, due to Castro’s government discovering the US’s plan. Thus, within 2 days, 100 ex-Cubans had died whilst 1.100 surrendered, resulting in a failed invasion.

Consequently, not only did this make the US appear weak and hypocritic (they had previously criticized the USSR for the invasion of Satellite States) but Cubans had also turned Anti-American as they were aware of the US’s unjust intentions.
