The impact of people in the environment and how to mitigate these impacts Flashcards
What is Overexploitation and what is its mitigation measures
Overexploitation is the unsustainable use of resources whereby the rate of extraction is beyond the regeneration capacity of the environment leading ultimately to resource depletion
Mitigation:
Alter behavior by creation seasonal extraction and a total ban on sensitive and endemic species
Encourage the consumption of other more abundant species.
Replace hardwood products with synthetic products to reduce the demand on forest.
Use resources more efficiently
What is Habitat Destruction and what is its mitigation measures
The elimination and alteration og the space and conditions necessary for the survival of plants and animals making it incapable of supporting life Mitigation: Recycling of forest products Stop junk mail Do not buy endangered animal products Buy recycled products Replace wood with durable material like blocks and steel Use resources more efficiently
What is pollution and what is its mitigation measures
Pollution is the introduction of harmful contaminants into the environment.
Mitigation:
Use CFC free products
Carpool
Use energy efficient products
Used solar powered appliances
Use wood reinforced with fiber glass and renewable energy
Develop sustainable strategies to use finite resources more efficiently
What is Introduction of exotic species and what is its mitigation measures
It is the removal of species from their native environment to a foreign environment where there are no natural the predators and an unlimited food supply which threatens biological diversity
Mitigat
