Q

How does Religion affect population growth

A

The level of influence the church has on the government and the population can affect the population growth. For example in a roman catholic country where utilizing forms of contraception are frowned upon and abortions are completely illegal there would be larger families and increase in the population but in the case o9f the church’s stance against premarital sex it would curb the amount of pregnancies a woman in that region would have during her reproductive life.

Q

How does Culture affect population growth

A

Culture refers to a society’s norms and values and it often relates to aspects such as, common use of language behaviors and practices.
In regions where child marriage is legal women as young as 15 may be having more babies during their childbearing 5 years than a woman who gets married at 30. Also when women get married younger they are less likely to receive and complete formal education and potentially have more children
The way children are regarded within the society is also a factor as if children are seen as abilities families to gain more money people may have more children. This is the case because children as young as 5 can be used for labor or work on the streets to make money for the household. Furthermore, the more children that the 2 parents have the more money they can receive and there would be older children there to take care of the younger ones and eventually take care of the parents in their old age.

In regions where polygamy is practiced and accepted there can be situations where one man has many children with many wives.

Q

How does The Level of Affluence and Cost of Education affect population growth

A

In a developing country, children are seen as assets able to garner money for the household from a young age by working on the fields or on the street even forgoing school to work. Whereas in a developed nation a child has many associated costs that come with it (such as diapers cribs books) and as time progresses those costs become more and more expensive. So even though they have the monetary ability to people in developed nations are likely to have a smaller number of children than those in a developing nation.
When the level and cost of education is higher people especially girls are less likely to have babies. This is due to the fact that they would be mainly focusing on furthering their education rather than trying to take care of a baby and with the cost of their education they may not be able to support both themselves and their child. Therefore they put off marriage and childbearing for later in life when their education is complete.

Q

How does the Social and Economic status of women affect population growth

A

In societies where a woman’s value may be deemed to be less than a man she may not be independent or make her own money and may be dependent on their male counterparts to support her financially as such to prove their commitment to the men they may have to bear his children. The reproductive choices (when/ how to have a baby) may be stripped from them. Also lower education because women arent allowed to do certain things=more babies and more of a reliance of the men

Q

How does The availability of Pension Schemes affect population growth

A

When there is little availability to pension schemes within a nation parents may decide to have many children so they can gain money and also have security so that may cared for in their old age. Also as these regions may have poor sanitation and health care the likeliness of infant mortality may be high so they have large families to make sure there will be someone to take care of them.
