Demographics: persons from multicultural backgrounds are increasing greatly in the U.S.

  • Elective services (choice–accent training for adults, for example)
  • Public Schools: no elective services. Treat disorders, not differences
  • Speech Sound Errors: transfer from L1 (first language) or actual characteristics of a disorder?
  • Transfer–> a structure in L2 (second language) is influenced directly by a structure in L1
