- self = the way a person sees themself
NEEDS TO BE EQUIVILANT TO - congurance = ideal self
- if the gap is too big = incongurace and self actualisation isnt met

how to reduce incongruence? and what causes incongruence?
A
- client centred therapy = help cope with the problems of everyday living
- problems we face from childhood = lack of unconditional positive regard (lack of unconditional love)

conditions of worth

- where a parent sets boundaries or limits their love for their child
- e.g. I’ll only love you if…
- causes psychological problems

- therapist = provide unconditional positive regard to the client by expressing acceptance, empathy and understanding of their condition.
- When the client feels supported, their conditions of worth affecting their self-concept will dissipate enabling them to move towards their ideal self and how they want to behave, rather than how they feel that they should.
