The Human Nervous Systen Flashcards
[The nervous system]
What does the nervous system do?
The nervous system enables humans to react to their surroundings and to coordinate their behaviour
[The nervous system]
What’s the process of the nervous system?
Information from receptors passes along the cells as electrical impulses to the central nervous system (CNS). The CNS is the brain and spinal cord. The CNS coordinates a response of the effector which may be muscles contracting or glands secreting hormones
[The nervous system]
What order is the nervous system?
Stimulus, receptor , coordinator , effector response
[The nervous system]
What are reflex actions?
reflex actions are automatic and rapid they do not involve the conscious part of the brain
[The nervous system]
What passes along nerve cells?
electrical impulses
[Nervous system]
What is the gap between two neurones called
a snyapse
[The nervous system]
What is released across a synapse
chemicals
[The nervous system]
What’s the role of a receptor?
To detect a stimulus
[The nervous system]
What is the role of a sensory neurone
to transfer a signal from a receptor to the CNS
[The nervous system]
What is the role of a motor neurone?
To transfer a signal from the cns to an effector
[The nervous system]
What’s is the role of a relay neurone?
TO transfer a signal from a sensory neurone to a motor neurone
[The nervous system]
What Is a reflex?
AN automatic response to a stimulus
[The nervous system]
What’s the pathway of a reflex arc
Stimulus/receptor/sensory nuerone/relay neurone/motor neurone/effector/response
[The nervous system]
What are the two main types of effectors?
glands,muscles
[The nervous system]
Why are reflexes important?
They protect us from harm
