What was Regimen Sanitatis and when was it popular?
Regimen Sanitatis was a method used to cure and prevent illness by praying and then having a bath to “wash away your sins and disease”. It was most popular during the renaissance. It was helpful in kickstarting medicine being related to hygiene and sanity, which later led to a discovery of aseptic surgery in 1878 by Robert Koch and the invention of the antiseptic spray (using carbolic acid) by Joseph Lister.
What were Pest houses?
Pest houses were a type of building usually used for quarantining people with communicable diseases. Many towns and cities had pest houses next to cemeteries or waste ponds for the disposal of the dead.
Who is John Snow?
John Snow was the man who discovered how cholera was spread (through dirty water) during the outbreak of 1854. He therefore helped the government provide the whole of London in order to stop the outbreak.
