Secondary source
Information or evidence that comes from a date after the event . They are based on primary sources but are produced after the event
Primary source
Are taken directly from the past e.g biography artefacts etc.

An account of a person written by that person

The story of a persons life written by another person

Does the source favour one side or another e.g newspapers can be very biased

Presenting false information to influence other peoples decision

Archaeologist
Digs up the ground to find clues and evidence left from the past by our ancestors
Artefact
Man made objects from the past e.g potery ,coins , tools and weapons
Research archaeology
Some sites ar chosen to be excavated because there is reason to believe that an artefact will be found e.g story or reference to the area in the document

Archeologists carry out a dig before construction of a road or building takes place
Geophysical survey
Archaeologist X-ray the site with a machine to look at the soil beneath the surface
Aerial photograph
A photo of the site taken from the sky . It might show features not visible from the surface

Dark patch left by wooden poles in the soil . They might show the outline of a house even though the house no longer exists
Stratigraphy
A method of dating artefacts . The lower down the in the soil they are found. The older they are.
Carbon or radiocarbon dating
A method of dating artefacts .all living things contain carbon 14. When the living thing dies it slowly loses carbon 14
Dendrochronolgy
Is used to date wooden objects . Each year a tree adds a new layer to its trunk these wrings add up to tell us the age of a tree . Archaeologist study ring patterns on wooden objects
