The Heart - Cardiac Parts Flashcards
Superior or Cranial Vena Cava
Into the heart from the upper body
Aorta
Away from the heart, through the aortic valve, from the left ventricle
Left Pulmonary Artery
Away from heart into left lung (through pulmonary valve from right ventricle)
Left Pulmonary veins
Blood from left lungs into heart (left atrium)
Left Atrium
Blood from lungs (left and right lungs)
Mitral (Bicuspid) Valve
Protects flow from left atrium to left ventricle
Left Ventricle
To aorta, via the aortic valve
Aortic valve
Left ventricle through aortic valve to aorta
Right ventricle
Takes blood from the right atrium (from upper and lower body/vena cavas) via the tricuspid valve
Tricuspid valve
Protects correct flow from right atrium to right ventricle
Right atrium
Holds blood flow from inferiors and superior vena cava before it enters right ventricle
Inferior Vena Cava (Caudal)
Lower body into heart, enters right atrium
Pulmonary Valve
Protects correct flow from right ventricle into left and right pulmonary arteries
Right Pulmonary artery
Blood away from heart, from the right ventricle through the pulmonary valve
Right Pulmonary Veins
Blood from right lungs to left atrium (into heart)
