16
Q

What adaptations do the arteries have to help it carry put its function

A

The walls are strong and elastic allowing blood to be pumped at high pressure.
The walls are thick compared to the lumen (hole down the middle)

17
Q

What adaptations do veins have ti carry out their function

A

Walls are not as thick as blood is carried at lower pressure.
Bigger lumen to help flow of blood despite lower pressure
They also have valves to keep the blood flowing in the right direction

18
Q

What adaptations do capillaries have to help them carry out there function

A

They are small to carry blood really close to each cell
They have permeable walls, so substances can diffuse in and out
Their walls are only one cell thick increasing the rate of diffusion by lowering the distance over which it occurs
