the heart and blood vessels Flashcards
the heart is a muscle. true or false?
true
the heart is a double pump, what does this mean?
each side of the heart takes blood from a specific place and sends it to a specific place.
what parts of the heart are at the top?
atrium
what parts of the heart are at the bottom?
ventricle
where does the blood enter?
the atria
what does the first beat in the heart mean?
its sends blood to the ventricle below though a valve which then slams shut to prevent back flow
what does the second beat mean?
the blood goes through a valve and out of the heart and the valve then slams shut to prevent back flow
where does the blood arrive after its been pumped out?
on the left side of the heart via the pulmonary vein
when the blood gets brought back into the heart through the pulmonary vein is it oxygenated?
yes, the blood is full of oxygen from the lungs
where does the left side of the heart send the blood?
it sends the blood out of the heart through the aorta, which then delivers the oxygenated blood to the body.
once the blood has traveled through the whole body what happens?
the blood is deoxygenated and full of CO2, it arrives back to the right side of the heart through the Vena Cava
where does the right side of the heart then send the deoxygenated blood?
it sends the blood to the pulmonary arteries which then sends the blood to the lungs. the lungs oxygenate the blood again and the process repeats
where are the coronary arteries found?
the outside wall of the heart
what do the coronary arteries do?
they deliver oxygen directly from the aorta to the heart muscle
where are the pacemakers found?
at the top of the right atrium wall
