The Gut and Peritoneal Cavity Flashcards
What do peritoneal folds act as a conduit for
Nerves, Blood vessels, Lymphatics
What is the difference between intraperitoneal and retroperitoneal
Intraperitoneal: totally wrapped in peritoneum
Retroperitoneal: behind the peritoneal and not totally wrapped
Three viscera that are secondarily retroperitoneal
Duodenum, pancreas, colon(Ascending and descending)
What viscera are retroperitoneal from the start
Kidneys, great vessels, adrenal glands, esophagus, rectum
What are the three divisions of the gut tube and their borders
Foregut: From distal 1/3 of esophagus to major duodenal papilla
Midgut: 2nd part of duodenum to 2/3 transverse mesocolon
Handgun: final 1/3 of the transverse colon to the rectum
Which mesenteries suspend the different parts of the gut tube
Entire gut is suspended by dorsal mesentery
Foregut ALSO suspended by ventral mesentery
What does the central mesentery split into
Falciform ligament and lesser omentum
What is the lesser omentum
Fold of peritoneum between the liver and the lesser curvature of the stomach
What is greater omentum
Lower part of the dorsal foregut mesentery that extends down from the greater curvature of the stomach as the greater omentum
What is the transverse Colon suspended by
Transverse mesocolon
What vessels run within the lesser omentum near its free edge
Hepatic portal vein, hepatic artery proper, bile duct
What are the difference parts of the stomach
Cardia, fundus, body, pyloric antrum, pyloric canal
