Q

Why was Roosevelt chosen over Hoover?

A

Hoover saw American’s as ‘rugged individuals able to overcome anything thrown at them without government help’ . He only helped a little bit by giving money to troubled businesses and farms. He didn’t do much in terms of helping and by the time he started giving money people believed he was too late. On the other hand Roosevelt was already known as a generous leader as he was previously governor of New York and had given $20m worth of tax money to the unemployed. He also gave fuel to those in need during a harsh winter. He promised a ‘New Deal’ when running for president promising he would fix everything, Roosevelt was an excellent public speaker and would do as many as 15 speeches a day. He was seen to have the right experience to help America.
