The Gluteal Region Flashcards
What are the main actions of the gluteal muscles =?
To abuduct and extend the femur
What nerve innervates the gletues maximus?
The inferior gluteal nerve
Which nerve innervates the gluteal medius, the gluteus minimums and the tensor fascia lata?
The superior gluteal nerve
What is the origin and insertion of the glletus maximus?
Orgin the gluteal posterior surface of the ilium, sacrum and the coccycyx, nd insertion into the ililotibila tract and the greater trochanter
What is the origin and insertion of the gluteus minimus?
Origin= gluteal surface of the ilium, and insertion is the lateral surface of the trochanter.
what are the origins and insertions of the gluetus minimus?
Origin is the ilium and insertion is the greater side of the trochanter
What is the origin and insertion of the tensor fascia lata?
Iliotibial tract and the lateral condyle
Whatare the deep gluteal muscles (from superior to inferior)
The piriformis, the glemelli, and obturator internus and the quadratus femorus
What is the main action of the deep gluteal muscles?
Laterally rotate the lower limb
What are the orgin and insertions of the superior and inferior gemelli?
Superior orginates from the ischial spine, and inferior orginates from the ischial tuberosity.
What is the origin and insertion of the quadratus femoris?
Origin is the lateral side of the ischial tuberosity, and the insertion is the intertrochnateric crest.
What is the origin and insertion of the obturator internus?
Origin is the pubis and ischium of the obturator foramen, and the insertion is to the greater trochanter of the femur
What is the origin and insertion of the piriformis?
Origin is the anterior surface of the sacrum, and insertion is the greater trochanter of the femur
What is the problems associated with damage to the superior gluteal nerve?
Innervates the gleutus medisu and gletusu minimus, whcihc stabilise the pelvis during locomotion, and the trendenlberg sign is seen when the patient is asked to stand unassisted on each leg.
What are some of the features of the sciatic nerve?
Dervived from the lumbroscaracal plexus, from roots L4 to S3, and emerges inferiorly from the piriformis before innervating the muscles of the posterior thigh, before biuficurating in the posterior thigh
