MEDICAL INFORMATION
- All customers must be asked if they are under a doctor’s supervision or taking medications. (If they are, they should inform their doctor about any products they are considering.)
- The Nutrition team can assist in checking for interactions between supplements and medications, but it is advised that customers also consult their GP for confirmation
PREGNANCY
- Products should not be taken by a pregnant customer without their consent of their midwife or GP
- The exception to this rule would be products specifically formulated for use during pregnancy. This will be stated
ADVICE AND PRODUCT SUPPORT
There are certain conditions i will have to learn about that can be affected by products, diet and lifestyle interventions , e.gs of problems that my benefit from products and are affected by diet and lifestyle include:
- digestive disorders
- inflammation,
- stress,
- tiredness
- pain,
- sleep problems,
- mental health concerns.
The aim is to engage customers in discussions about potential product solutions, dietary adjustments, and lifestyle modifications to enhance their overall health and well-being
HOLSTIC SUPPORT
some conditions are typically improved with diet and lifestyle intervention but do not have sufficient evidence on the use of products to support. e.g
- type 2 diabetes
- cardiovascular disease
- age related disease
- epilepsy
HEALTHCARE REFERRALS
severe conditions that customers may suffer from and therefore we cant give much information these conditions include:
- locomotor ataxia
- paralysis
- glaucoma
- cataracts
- stds
- tuberculosis
PRODUCT SPECIFIC CAUTIONS
- double up (providing too much of an effect)
- pregnancy
- stop medicine working (body can make them either less or more effective)
- toxicity (excessive intake)
- age related (above 18):
- weight loss product
- high caffeine product
- creatine product
- licensed 18+ herbal products
- cbd oil
- low/no alcohol product
challenge 25:
suitable id:
a photo driving license
passport
proof of age card as the pass card
allergies:
- body reaction to a food or substance (occurs when the immune system responds to a normally harmless as though it were a threat)
- can cause sneezing , watery eyes , itchy eyes , skin rash
- symptoms come quickly
- only a small amount is needed to cause reaction
- life threatening
- common ones are hayfever
intolerances:
- result from the inability to properly break down certain ingredients in food (this can cause bloating ,vomiting, skin rashes or nausea)
- comes more slowly , usually a larger amount of the substance
- some type of intolerances can be helped by avoiding or limiting certain ingredients
- product that might help is lactase enzyme this is a product that can stop the effects of an intolerance to lactose by allowing the body to break it down better.
cross contamination
if there is a risk of cross contamination , during the manufacturing they will have a label that says ‘may also contain sesame seeds’ (theres a chance of small amounts of allergens)
added ingredients
if a pre packed product contains more then one or more 14 allergens as added ingredient this must be flagged (bold writing , underlining , highlighting or italics)
vegetarian / pescatarians (special diet)
do not eat animals e.g animals , fish , birds or gelatine
do not eat glucosamine (natural sugar that exists in fluids around joints of animals
do eat eggs (ovo vegetarian)
similar to vegetarians do eat fish
vegan (special diet)
- eat the same food as vegetarians
- don’t eat eggs, honey (and other bee products) and dairy
- look out for ‘suitable for vegans’
gluten (special diet)
- they may be suffering from gluten intolerance or coeliac disease ( a disease caused by an adverse reaction to gluten)
keto (special diet)
- low carb diet (it is believed that the body will be more likely to use fat for energy and help you lose weight)
- suggestions - nuts , seeds , low carb shakes and drinks.
- avoid classic high carb foods like rice , dried fruits , and high sugar drinks
