Wanted an adventure Felt they were missing out Wanted the glory and a medal Help them get a wife May never have left Britain before Wanted to fight for King and country – Patriotic Posters persuaded men to fight Unionists fought to not have Home Rule Nationalists fought to get Home Rule
What is conscription and why did the government bring it in in 1916?
Conscription gave the government the authority to make all men aged18-41 join the army. They did this because the war was lasting a long time so less people were joining and more and more people were dying.
What was life like for soldiers in the trenches?
They didn’t have that much good food. They had to ration a lot.
The conditions were met & muddy
Since they were in a dirty environment and didn’t have the luxury of showers so they were infected by lice
Many of them caught trench foot. Some even tried to get it to leave the war.
There were also big rats.
