A
  • 2-3 oocytes are released into the fallopian tube and mature to become responsive to hormones
  • They increase in FSH receptors
  • FSH stimulates meiosis to make one mature dominant follicle where it contains both FSH and LH receptors
  • Granulosa cells release oestradiol in late follicular phase which contain oestrogen receptors
  • At one point of the follicular phase, there is an LH surge which releases oocyte with granulosa – stimulating meiosis
  • Any cells left behind form corpus luteum
  • There are 14 days of the luteal phase until apoptosis occurs
  • LH receptors progressively become less responsive to LH
