Q

What is the function of the levator palpebrae superioris, orbicularis oculi, and ocular muscles in the eye/eyelids?

A

Levator palpebrae superioris - tendon inserts into the eye, opens the eye

Q

What are the five different glands at the eye? What is their overall function?

A
  • Glands of Zeis (sebaceous), conjunctiva (mucous), tarsal (Meibomian) glands (sebaceous glands within eyelids), lacrimal caruncle (sebaceous and sweat glands), lacrimal glands (tears)
  • All work together to create a solution of water, oil, polysaccharide, antibacterial agents, and enzymes to lubricate, moisturize, clean, and protect the surface of the eye
