The Eye Flashcards
What does the cornea do?
Does most focusing of light. It is a transparent, curved window.
What are the parts of the eye?
Cornea Iris Pupil Aqueous humour Lens Ciliary muscle Victorious humour Retina Optic nerve
What does the iris do?
Controls the size of the pupil. The coloured part of the eye.
What does the pupil do?
Allows light into the eye. It’s a hole. That’s why it appears to be black.
What does the lens do?
Finely focuses light onto retina. It’s a crystalline structure.
What do the ciliary muscles do?
The muscle that shapes the lens by pushing and pulling.
What does the aqueous and vitreous humour do?
Gives the eye it’s shape. Thick transparent liquid.
What does the retina do?
Changes light signals to electrical ones. At back of eye.
What does the optic nerve do?
Sends signals from eye to brain.
Which part of the eyes takes up most space?
The vitreous humour.
What shape is the eye?
Spherical
Which parts of the body protect the eye?
Eyelids, skull.
How does light enter the eye?
Through the pupil.
Where does the light bending (refraction) occur in the eye?
The cornea
How does the lens fine focus?
The ciliary muscle stretches and retracts making the lens thicker and thinner.
Where I’d the blind spot located?
Where the retina joins the optic nerve.
Our eyes provide this part of our body with all sorts of information.
Brain
The approximate diameter of the human eye.
2.5 cm
The type of lens found in the eye.
Convex
The type of image formed by the lens.
Upside down.
The number of light sensitive cells that make up the retina.
Millions
The type of tissue that the iris is made up of.
Muscular
The amount of light bending that happens as light passes through the cornea.
90%
The two types of cells that make up the retina.
Rods and cones.
The more light around, the _______ the pupil.
Smaller
