The Eye Flashcards
What is the cornea?
Focuses light on the retina
What is the pupil?
‘Hole’ (transparent part) which light enters through
What is the iris?
Makes pupil larger/smaller depending on amount of light entering the eye. (Dark= large pupil)
What is the aqueous humour?
Thin, transparent fluid. Provides nutrition and maintains eye
What is the retina?
Image forms here(focuses). Contains millions of light sensitive cells (cones+ rods).
What is the optical nerve?
It sends image to the brain electrically.
What is a blind spot?
Where nerve leaves retina so lacks receptor cells.
What is an optical illusion?
Coloured, light, patterns. They create a deceptive image.
What is the lens?
Completes the focusing process. Ciliary muscles around it make it thinner and thicker.
