Refraction Flashcards
What happens when light travels from one medium to another
It bends (because it is changing speed)
What does light travel slowest optically in?
Dense materials
What does light travel fastest in?
A vacuum
Name lenses that exhibit refraction
Eye lens, camera lens etc
What happens when light enters a glass block at 90 degrees?
It goes straight through
What happens when light enters a block at any other angle than 90 degrees?
It changes direction at the entering
What happens when a ray COMES OUT of a block at 90 degrees
It continues straight
What happens when a ray comes out of a block at any other angle than 90 degrees
It changes direction again (parallel with direction of light going into block)
The direction of a ray entering a block/direction of ray emerging from opposite side is what?
Parallel
Give a summary of refraction
It occurs when waves move from transparent medium to different transparent medium.
When light moves from air to glass it slows down
When light moves from glass to air it speeds up
Light will not bend when it enters a different material at 90 degrees
