The Eye Flashcards
What happens to an object in someone who is long sighted , in someone’s eye
They struggle to see objects close , this is because :
The light cannot refract enough - so the image is formed behind the retina so the focal point is too far back
What happens to an object in someone who is short sighted , in someone’s eye
They struggle to see objects from afar because the light is refracted too much so the image is formed infront of the retina - because the focal point is infront of the retina
How do you treat a short sighted individual
You use a concaved lens
How do you treat a long sighted individual
You use a convexed lens
where on the retina should the light focus/meet
on the fovea on the retina
When looking at a nearby object what does the eye do
- the ciliary muscles contract * the suspensory ligaments loosen * the lens is then thicker and refracts light rays strongly.
When looking at an object far away what does the eye do
- the ciliary muscles relax * the suspensory ligaments are pulled tight * the lens is then pulled thin and only slightly refracts light rays.
Another word for short sighted
myopia
Another word for long sighted
hyperopia
what do rods and cones cells detect
they both detect light but
Cone cells detect colour but Rods dont
The retina contains many cone and rod cells
retina connected to optic nerve connected to brain
