The Eye Flashcards
Function of sclera
case which protects eye from damage
Function of cornea
refracts light
Function of iris?
adjusts pupil size
Function of lens?
focus on objects
Function of suspensory ligaments?
Adjust lens shape
Function of retina?
Light receptors
Function of optic nerve?
Sends impulses from receptors cells in the retina to the brain
Function of rod cells?
Sensitive to dim light
Function of cone cells?
See in colour
How does that eye adapt to dim light?
- retina contains rod cells & cone cells
- cells sensitive to light therefore monitor amount of light entering
What happens to the radial and circular muscles when there is dim light?
- radial muscles contract
- circular muscles relax
- to allow as much light in
What happens to the radio in circular muscles when there is bright light?
- radial muscles relax
- circular muscles contract
- to allow as little light in
What is accommodation?
The process of changing the shape of the lens to focus on near or distant objects
