The eye Flashcards
Iris
Contracts and dilutes to control the amount of light that enters the eye
Optic nerve
Conencts the retina to the brain and conveys light signals as electrical signals
Aqueous humour
Provides nourishment for the cornea and the lens
Lens
Bends the light rays so that they can focus on the retina
Retina
Contains sensory cells whihc converts light signals into electrical signals
Vitreous humour
Is a liquid of jelly like consitsnecy that gives the eyeball it’s rounded shape
Pupil
Allows light to enter the eye
Ciliary muscles
Pulls on the lens and adjusts its shape allowing the eye to focus on both near and far objects
Sclera
Protects the eye
Cornea
bends light rays beforethey are further bent by the lens
Pathway of light
Light passes through the cornea to the lens. The cornea and the lens focus the light rays onto the (retina). The cells in the retina absorb and convert the light to electrical signals which are transferred along the optic nerve and then to the brain.
