The Endocrine System Flashcards
1
Q
What is a hormone, and where are they made? How are they distributed throughout the body? Why can’t all cells react to all hormones?
A
A hormone is the chemical product of an endocrine gland. They are sent throughout the body via nerve impulses, and cannot react to all cells because certain hormones react to certain cells.
2
Q
What makes the endocrine and exocrine systems different?
A
The endocrine goes all over the body, while the exocrine system goes to a specific place.
3
Q
What is negative feedback, and how does it help maintain homeostasis?
A
Negative feedback is when something is done, it tells itself to stop doing that action, which can make it work more than it has to.
