A

Purpose: the effect of incidental anxiety on risk taking
Method: two sessions (one in group and one individual)
participants in the experimental condition were induced with anxiety by being told they were to prepare for a defence of job candidacy. both groups had to fill out a risk taking questionnaire (about gambling) and an EI questionnaire (MSCEIT)
Results: incidental anxiety reduces risk taking in people lower in emotional understanding

Experiment 2

A

Purpose: to examine the mechanism by which emotional understanding reduces the effect of incidental anxiety on risk taking
Method: same as experiment 1 but 1) in half of both groups, they were told that their emotions were irrelevant, 2) in the anxiety group, they were told that it’s normal to feel anxious, and 3) measure of cognitive ability in addition to emotional understanding
Results: same as experiment 1, except when emotions were irrelevant, there was no effect
