Yama
Social and ethical restraints of conduct relating to how the yogi should behave in relationships with others
Five Yama
Ahimsa (Non-Violence), Satya (Truthfulness), Asteya (Non-Stealing), Brahmacharya (Sexual Restraint/Continence), Aparigraha (Non-Possessiveness/Non-Greed/Non-Hoarding)
Niyama
Ethical restraints concerning the conduct of the yogi to self
Five Niyama
Sauca (Cleanliness), Santosha (Contentment/Gratitude), Tapas ( Self Discipline/Determination/Heat), Svadhyaya (Self-study), Ishvara Pranidhana (Surrender to divine will)
Asana
“seat” or “posture” These are the yoga poses.
Pranayama
Controlling of the life force “prana” carried on the breath
Pratyahara
Withdrawing of the senses or turning inward
Dharana
Concentration or Focus
Dhyana
Meditation
Samadhi
