what was the proposal?
the french prime minister proposed the formation of the european defense communisty. to create a european army under suprantional control

this proposed that parrallel to the EDC, nato would create an integrated force in Europe.

Adenauer negotiated for more independece with the western allies in order to convince his electorate that rearmament would lead to the FRG being given equality of treatment by its former occupiers.

appered to the west that the soviet union would soon overun Europe. this fear was reinforced by the East German leader appered to be recommending the same action of the north koreans be done to west Germany

in october 1951 a new treaty was being negotiated that would recognise the FRG’s new status as a semi-independent state intead of an occupied one. This was signed in May 1952.
