The Earth's Core Flashcards

Name all three parts of the earths underground parts.

The core (outer and inner core)
The mantle (upper and lower mantle)
The crust

Describe the inner core.
This place is the hottest place on the the Earth, It has the temperatures of up to 5500 degrees Celsius. It is made up of iron and nickel. and is about 1200km thick.
How hot is the outer core?
About the same as the inner core.
What is the outer core made up of?
Nickel and iron.
How thick is the outer core?
2250km thick.
Where it the mantle located?
Between the crust and core.
How thick is the mantle?
2900km thick.
How thick is the upper mantle?
It is about 670km thick.
How hot is the upper mantle?
Between 500 and 900 degrees Celsius.
What is the upper mantle made up of?
Iron, silica, magnesium and oxygen.
How thick is the lower mantle?
2230km thick.
How hot can the lower mantle go to?
4000 degrees Celsius.
What is the lower mantle made up of?
Iron, silica, magnesium and oxygen.
How thick is the crust?
From 5 to 70km thick.
What is the oceanic crust made up of?
Igneous rock, rich in iron and magnesium.
