Germanic Tribes began to migrate into the Roman Empire by around 300. These tribes divided Europe into a collection of small, warring kingdoms.
How did Charlemagne work to unite much of Western Europe?
Charlemagne spent much of his 46-year reign fighting to increase his power and territory. His military victories reunited much of the original western Roman empire. Charlemagne thought that education could help reunite his kingdom. Educated officials would be able to keep accurate records and write clear reports.
