What enzyme do salivary glands excrete and what is it’s function?
Amalayse is excrete by the salviary glands and it breaks down starch into maltose.
What is the seconary function of saliva?
It acts as a lubricant which wets the food and makes it easier to chew and swallow the food.
What happens when food is swallowed?
It is passed to the oesophagus. It is then moved to the stomach along the oesophagus by peristalis. It is prevented from entering the trachea by the epiglottis
What is peristalsis?
Peristalsis is the way food entering the osephagus is moved along to the stomach by muscluar contractions that have a rhythmic, wave like motion.
What is a ruminant?
A ruminant is an animal that has a four chambered stomach that is modifed and adapted for the digestion of cellulose
