The digestive system breaks down carbs, proteins, and fats into tiny pieces that can leak out of your intestine and into the blood vessels
Stomach
Food churns with acid, becomes a substance similar to playdoh
Small intestine
Nutrients are absorbed by blood vessels
Large intestine
Reabsorbs water
Excretion
Waste exits the body
Liver
Produces bile to break down fats
Gall bladder
Stores bile the liver produces, bile from here goes into small intestine
Pancreas
Makes insulin, insulin goes into small intestine
Epiglottis
Flap of skin that covers the trachea when food needs to go down
Esophagus
Tube that food goes down from mouth to stomach
Salivary gland
Produces enzymes in saliva that help to break down food in mouth
Appendix
Unnecessary, is located at end of small intestine, beginning of large intestine
Bile duct
Entrance to small intestine from gall bladder is the bile duct
Peristalsis
A muscular movement that moves food down the esophagus
