The Circulatory System Flashcards
Veins
Carry bad blood back to the heart
Arteries
“Roads” that lead away to the heart
Capillaries
Super tiny tubes that allow nutrients and wastes to diffuse in and out of tissues
3 things blood delivers?
Blood delivers sugar and oxygen to tissues
Blood delivers white blood cells to fight infection
Blood transports wastes and carbon dioxide to be removed
The heart - aorta
Takes good blood from the heart to the rest of the body
Carotid artery is one that comes off of aorta
Superior veina cava
Brings bad blood from the rest of the body to the right atrium
Pulmonary artery
Brings bad blood to the lungs
Pulmonary veins
Bring good blood from the lungs back to the heart and into the left atrium
Right atrium
Area where bad blood is in the heart, after it comes through veina cava but before it goes to lungs
Right ventricle
Area in heart where bad blood is after right atrium and leads to pulmonary artery
Inferior veina cava
Brings blood to the heart from other parts of the body
Left atrium
Holds good blood that returned from the lungs
Left ventricle
Holds good blood that comes from the left atrium before it leaves to go to the rest of the body
Femoral artery
Takes good blood to the rest of the body
What is blood?
A type of connective tissue that circulated throughout all the parts of the body
