The Dermis Flashcards
Two layers of the dermis
Reticular layer & papillary layer
Collagen
Collagen is white fibrous tissue made up of proteins, gives skin a plump & youthful appearance & holds water
Elastin
Elastin is yellow elastic tissue gives skin its elasticity and adds support.
Fibroblast
Fibroblasts are cells in the dermis that produce collegan and elastic.
Two Types of sweat glands
Eccrine
Apocrine
What is sebum?
Sebum is a fatty acid that helps to form the slightly greasy surface film of the skin.
Function of sebum?
This helps keeps the skin moist preventing it from drying out and lubrictating the hair.
Sebum mixed with sweat forms the Acid mantle.
pH of skin?
Hair Follicle
Hair Follicles extend from the dermis to the epidermis.
Papillae
Sebaceous Gland
ebaceous gland is attached to upper part of follicle & its duct enters directly into hair follicle
Are found entire skin surface except palms, soles, sides of feet.
These glands secrete sebum through the sebaceous duct into the follicle and onto the surface of the skin.
Where are eccrine glands found?
Where are apocrine glands found?
Apocrine glands are found at the hair follicle .
They are found in the groin and axillae/armpits.
They excrete a milky fluid.
