John Proctor
Originally a well respected man, who was well liked but had a hidden force. He reveals his affair with Abigail (downfall) but doesn’t want to expose Abigail during the witch trails because he is worried his secret will get revealed.
Elizabeth Proctor
John Proctors who fires Abigail after she finds out about the affair. She is accused of witchcraft, and other people try to find evidence supporting it. She is proven innocent but she is jailed, and forgives proctor for what he did before he dies
Rev. John Hale
Expert on witchcraft, called to Salem. Committed Christian and hater of witchcraft. The hysteria starts to worsen and he gets confused and falls for it. Near the end he realizes the craziness and attempts to save lives.
Abigail Williams
Caught conjuring spirts (Rev Paris Niece) who accuses others to save herself. Due to hysteria she steals proctors money and leaves on a ship because she is scared of her consequences
Rev. Parris
Minister of Salem church, who wants high reputation. He is very disliked (defends the court) and he is scared of how out of hand the witch trials got. He received death threats and wanted to postpone hangings.
Judge Danforth
Deputy governor on Massachusetts who is a judge during the trials. He has a high reputation and he believes he is doing right by rooting out witchcraft
Giles Corey
Elderly former who addressed concerns of witchcraft abt his wife. He defended her and was arrested and died. (Pressed by stones to not give others away)
Thomas Putman
Believes in witchcraft and takes it very seriously (defends to court) uses witch trials to increase wealth by causing people of witchcraft and buying their land
Tituba
Rerund Parris slave form Barbados. Leader of conjuring spirits who admits to save herself. (Agreed to preform voodoo at Abigail’s request)
Mary Warren
Servant in proctors household who is one of the girls found conjuring spirts. She is easily influenced and blames other girls. She tried to confess, but other girls overrule her and she is jailed. (Blames proctor)
Martha Corey
Giles Corey 3rd wife who’s reading habits lead to her being accused and arrested of conviction of witchcraft
Rebecca nurse
Upright women who had special regard for Salem community. She falls victim of witchcraft when the putmans accuse her and she refuses to confess
Betty Paris
One of the girls conjuring spirits, who falls into a strange illness once she is caught. Her and Ruth fuel first rumors of witchcraft (faced ongoing consequences throughout book)
Ruth Putman
Putmans one serving child out of 8. Mrs.Putman send her to conjure spirits and was caught
Anne Putman
Given birth to 8 children but only one survived. Anne is depressed and convinced that they were murdered by supernatural means.
