The 1760s was a decade of political instability, as the king ignored the views of parliament by appointing ministers who could not claim the support of the HoC.

Lord North who became prime minister. Ge was a politician who could count on the support of the HoC.
What had been developing since 1714 to secure the Crown’s influence in government and parliament?
A large network of patronage, which was used by monarchs and their ministers to ensure loyalty of individual MPs. Financial incentives, especially sinecures and generous pensions, were lavished on individuals in order to secure their support for government.
