A

stemmed from close associations with the monarchy and the Church of England where they were aware of humanity’s potential for mob rule and so osught to resist radical changes to the british const.

A

In his work Benjamin Disraeli warnd against Britain becoming ‘Two nations’ ‘the rich and the poor’, he believed that society was an organic body in which stability and prosperity could only be achieved through all classes and individuals appreciating their debt to each other and not putting selfish interests above the well-being o the community

A

according to one-nation principles the cons. party should protect and advance the interests of the whole nation. One- nation conservatism is thus more inclusive and progressive than traditional conservatism

A

New right conservatism is rooted in classical liberalism because it seeks to reduce the influence of govt. in the econ. an over ppl’s lives while also deriving from trad. conservatism because of it’s emphasis on the importamce of achieving security through law, order and strong defence

1970’s- effectiveness of one-nation conservatism was being undermined by large-scale industrial unrest by trade unions (demanding higher wages for their workers)
1975- Thatcher defeated rival Edward Heath for leadership of cons. and ‘New Right principles’ became more dominant .
