A

1834, however he held an election in Jan 1835 where he won a majority and the Parliament.

What did the Tamworth Manifesto include?

A

It distinguished the Tory position Reform and it presented the Radicals and Irish Nationals as wanting to destroy order.

Peel stated that he accepted the Reform Act 1832, as a ‘final and irrevocable settlement’.

He also promised that the conservatives may undertake reviews of ‘institution’.

However, they wanted to ‘conserve’ society as it is and would only reform to ‘survive’

What was the Lichfield House Compact (1835)?

A

Lord Russell and Daniel O’Connell agreed that Irish MPs would support the Whig parliament in exchange for support with Irish Reform (with Whig support).

However, there were division in this group due to the pact with the Irish leading to the elections in 1835 allowing Peel to gain a majority.
