When did the Cold War begin
Before the WW2 ended in 1945. Russian and the US had started to distrust each other during WW2.
What did Stalin want Europe to be like after WW2?
He wanted Pro-soviet governments to protect Russia from future invasions.
What did Truman want Europe to be like after WW2?
He believed only industrialization and democracy in Germany and the continent ensured post-war stability.
What did Truman create for the the world.
HE created the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
What did Truman create in 1947 after prosecuting war criminals?
The Marshall Plan was 10 billion for rebuilding and industrialization of Europe.
What did Stalin dislike about the Marshall Plan, the IMF and the World Bank?
He did not want to aid Germany, his enemy. Russia convinced other communist allies in Russia to reject the funds assistance. The Soviet press claimed that the American program was “a plan for interference in the domestic affairs of other countries.”
What was the “buffer” that Stalin created.?
Setting up pro-communist governments in Poland and other Eastern European countries. He has also behind the Iron Curtain to divide east and west Germany.
What did Truman do to fight communism?
He dropped food on Berlin, pledged $400 million to fight communists in Greece and Turkey and and started the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
What is a proxy war?
A war that is really between the US and Russia but is fought between pro-US and pro-Russian countries. The Korean war and Vietnam war were examples. Each side got support from a different superpower.
What were the Arms race and Space race?
The arms race was where each superpower tried to stockpile more nuclear weapons to intimidate the other and the space race was to see who had the better scientist and could complete space missions.
When did the Cold War End and why?
It ended in 1991 with the collapse of the USSR.
What pact did the USSR create in 1955 with Easter Europe?
The Warsaw Pact
