On 17 April 1961, 1400 cuban exiles were sent by the USA to the bay of pigs in Cuba. The USA hoped they would topple the castro regime and return the old government

-Volunteers had little military experience
-US couldn’t support volunteers without starting a war
-Castro new about the invasion plans so was prepared
-Cubans did not support exiles cause.
